It was just a month ago when Joss Whedon confirmed that James Spader would play Ultron in the highly anticipated sequel The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. It was too early to tell if the actor would do motion capture work or if he would be doing voiceovers. Anything was possible.
Speaking The Inquirer about the latest on the film, Spader dropped a few hints about his character, and the kinds of preparations he is doing to get ready for the character.
I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it. And yes, actually, just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I’m gonna fit in this Ultron character!
In an interview with Collider, Spader revealed that he wanted to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while and that had met with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige long before he signed on to play Ultron.
Well, I had met with Kevin Feige a couple of years ago and just told him that I would love to come into that world, at some point, if the circumstances were right. It was for a lot of reasons. There was a time in my life where I used to go over to my friend Will’s house when I was kid and I never had any comic books in my house, but he had trunk loads of them. I used to go over there and bury myself in his room with his comics and devour them. And then, I put that down in my life. I have three sons and a couple of them, along the way, have shown a real keen interest in that world. So, before it was too late, I wanted to try to see if I could be part of that.
So it seems like Spader will be doing some form of motion-capture work. He also leaves room that if it doesn’t work, he will do the voiceover. But for right now, it looks like Spader will actually be on the set fighting the Avengers.
