‘Avengers: Endgame’ Deleted Scene Is A Tribute To Tony Stark That Also Reveals What Happened To Gamora

Avengers: Endgame

We found out last month that Marvel Studios would be releasing their mega-hit Avengers: Endgame, along with plenty of bonus features, on Digital on July 30, 2019, and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 13, 2019.

Now, ahead of the Digital release, Marvel Studios has revealed, via USA Today, one of the bonus features in the form of a deleted scene involving Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man/Tony Stark.

Watch the deleted scene here below — and obviously, Spoilers for Endgame.

The deleted scene involves The Avengers and their allies in a very emotional moment. If you’ve already seen Endgame, then you know what happens to lead up to this part of the movie. If you haven’t seen the film, then definitely do NOT watch the deleted scene.

As far as why it was cut from the theatrical edition, it wasn’t because it wasn’t good enough. The film’s directors Joe and Anthony Russo told USA, “It’s a beautiful scene with moving performances, but we filmed it prior to Tony Stark’s funeral…The funeral scene ultimately became a more resonant and emotional reflection on Tony’s death for us.”

That makes a lot of sense, although this deleted scene really is a good one and it happened to contain some pertinent information. Along with being a touching tribute to the great Tony Stark, it also shows us what happened to Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, something many were wondering after seeing the film. In the deleted scene, she’s the only one not kneeling for Tony, as this version of the character wouldn’t have known who he was.

The lone holdout, interestingly, is Gamora (Zoe Saldana) – not the version whose father Thanos killed in “Avengers: Infinity War” but the space assassin from the past who turned against Dad to work with the heroes and now leaves for parts unknown.

Plotwise it makes sense because this Gamora wouldn’t have known who Stark was or his contributions to superheroing in general. The scene also answers a question some fans had after the finale of “Endgame” about what happened to Gamora and if she was dusted like Thanos, plus sets up a third “Guardians of the Galaxy” for Star-Lord and crew to go find her (assumably during or after Marvel’s upcoming Phase 4 of films).

The Digital edition of Avengers: Endgame hits digital platforms on July 30, 2019 (with an option to get the bonus features), and is available now for pre-order. 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions will be released on August 13, 2019. Check out our previous coverage for a detailed list of all of the bonus features that will be included in this home video release.
