Welcome, one and all, to the wondrous world of webcomics! Okay, so the truth is webcomics aren’t a new thing. But while there may be lots of them from which to choose, I would love to point your browser towards this particular one titled Reckstar.
Whimsical and not a little goofy, this web-based comic series is brought to you, in part, by a long time contributor here at Geeks of Doom, NeverWanderer (aka Joey Cruz). You may remember his name from an article I wrote not too long ago that was focused on a Kickstarter with which he was involved. So what is this Reckstar comic, you ask? Well let me tell you a little more about it…
Reckstar is a series based around the misadventures of Thade Reckstar and Finn Wyoming. The comic was started almost a year ago and is pretty damn hilarious. I can definitely see some influences at work here. There is a distinct Star Wars vibe to parts of the first chapter and it plays like an homage and not like a rip off, to be fair. The overall theme behind it is they are independent couriers that travel the galaxy, though thanks to Finn the contracts aren’t exactly rolling in. You see, Thade is the solid part of this duo. He knows what needs to be done and he’s a professional who wants to do it right. Finn, unfortunately, wants to help and seems to go all Mr. Bean/Maxwell Smart on stuff whenever he tries to assist with anything. Shoot first and ask no questions, to put it mildly. Amazingly enough, Thade won’t abandon his partnership with Finn for some reason as yet undisclosed. This leads to even more shenanigans.
As I mentioned earlier, Joey Cruz is half of the Reckstar team. He does the writing for this gig and he does it very well. I don’t personally know the guy but if what I’ve seen so far is any indication then we can expect great things from him, so keep your eyes peeled. The art is supplied by Michelle Nguyen and is chock full of clean lines and vibrant colors. Being a digital comic, there are a few enhancements used that could never have been delivered on paper. You know the old saying, seeing is believing? It stands the test for Reckstar in many ways.
I hope you take the time to visit the website and take a look at this gem. It has a lot going for it and gets a new installment every Tuesday. There have been a couple of times that guest writers and artists have done a page for the series and it’s nice to see others giving their take on this humorous webcomic. You have no reason not to try this out, folks. It’s free. That’s right. FREE. The best price ever. So go check it out and then come back and let me know what you thought of it.
