Some kids do homework after school. Some watch TV or play video games. Others go to soccer practice, dancing school, or ride their bikes. But there are some kids who actually prefer to hang out with their parents, turn up the amps to 10, and practice their A harmonic minor gallop. Where do these mystical metal children exist? In sunny California, of course! I would like to introduce you to the CheeseBergens… the Bergen family with just the right dose of “cheese.”

Mom, Marissa, and Dad, Geeks of Doom’s own Ides Bergen, had grown up immersed in the metal scene, both on stage and behind the scenes. Marissa was in the band Sisters Grimm in the ’90s with her twin sister, Victoria, and Ides played and did a lot of backstage work. They really wanted their son and daughter to grow up doing more than just listening to the music, but live it as they did.

Marissa says, “We are both huge rock fans so naturally we wanted both of our kids to play, so we sent them to rock schools.” The idea for the band started because they wanted the kids to have that “real band” experience – writing songs… playing gigs. So CheeseBergens was born.

All money earned as a band is donated to the Ovation Music Fund (formerly known as the Rock School Scholarship Fund), which raises money to send low-income children to rock schools.

What happens when two would have been rock stars have a middle aged crisis? They decide to form a family band with their unwitting children. Enter the CheeseBergens… comprised of Ides Bergen, father and drummer, Marissa Bergen, mother and bassist, Jesse Bergen, son and singer/lead guitarist and Anjelica Bergen, daughter and singer/guitarist.

Mama and Papa Cheese have been honing their skills for years playing the L.A. club circuit in bands to varying success. The Cheese Kids have been busy building their own resumes in rock schools in the L.A. area. Now they come together with their own brand of rock n’ roll with punk and metal influences.

The CheeseBergens are ready to take the world by storm…or maybe completely embarrass themselves…but either way, it should be fun!
