USA Today has a first look at Hugh Jackman as the title character in the X-Men prequel spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
It’s not exactly a “first look” of Jackson as the Wolverine character — the actor played the steel-clawed mutant in the X-Men film trilogy — but it is the first official image from the prequel movie.
While Jackman didn’t reveal much of the plot, he did confirm that Wolverine’s nemesis Sabretooth “will play a big part” in the film and that there will be cameo appearances of new and familiar mutants.
Here’s some more information about the film from the USA Today piece:
“The prequel will center on the origins of the superhero with animal-like reflexes, an alloy skeletal system and the ability to heal from virtually any wound. He also could use a friend….
The film will trace Wolverine’s past as he discovers the world of mutants and, ultimately, the ominous Weapon X program, which turns people into living weapons.”
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, directed by Gavin Hood, hits theaters on May 1, 2009.
Next May is going to be cool with this and Star Trek.
