It’s been a while since Jim Carrey has done something worth discussion, the depressingly beautiful Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind being the last one. He’s been here and there in sight, but just hasn’t hit any worthy points since then.
Jason Reitman is on what I like to call a “Natural Streak” where he hasn’t missed yet; two movies out of the way, both being incredible. His first, Thank You for Smoking, was one of the funniest movies in recent memory with smart, witty dialogue, an odd-yet-unique story, and all-you-can-eat good performances. His second is the now-immortal Juno, which started small and has grown into a monster; a very adorable monster, of course! Next up, he tackles another Diablo Cody script with Jennifer’s Body with Transformers looker Megan Fox starring.
After all of that madness, I’ve read via CHUD that the Carrey and Reitman shall meet up and a fusion will take place. The two will begin work on a movie for Fox Atomic called Pierre Pierre, which involves a self-indulgent French nihilist (Carrey) who is hired to get a stolen painting from Paris to London. Based simply on the fact that Reitman is batting a thousand and Carrey can be fantastic with the right project, I have great, great hopes for this being a magical little pairing.
It will be a while before we find out for sure, and by that time, you’ll have forgotten about reading this, so if it’s a flop to end all flops, you won’t remember to blame me for all of this pre-assumed glory! When it does come around, just don’t go in thinking it will be like Eternal Sunshine, as I wasn’t going for that — I just hope that it’s as good as and as successful as it in the long run.
No information at all on who else may be involved or when we may get to see this.
Stay tuned!
