Sony is considering doing a Spider-Man spinoff movie based on Venom, the villainous character introduced in Spider-Man 3 and played Topher Grace. Sony is also supposedly looking for new writers to do the script and maybe even starting with a clean slate and replacing Grace.
If there’s one thing that really stuck out to me about Spider-Man 3 (aside from the fact that everyone hated it), was the sheer anger people had at the complete misuse of the Venom character and reading this, I feel as if Sony saw that and wants to make up for it.
I haven’t read a whole lot of comics in my day, but one of the first I did read was one that heavily involved both Venom and Carnage, which are two of the most bad-ass comic creations of all time. Beings that could be so damn ruthless on the big screen, yet we got the skinny kid from That 70’s Show.
Whether this will actually play out or not is unknown, but if you asked me, I really think that Sony sees what’s going on with The Dark Knight right now and they see the icon of villains that The Joker has already become and they realize that if they do it right with Venom, they could have something really special. Better yet, if they do a movie based on the Venom/Carnage storyline, it could carve it’s own incredible path. Or, maybe they just want to shit out another movie as fast as possible with Venom in the whole thing and hope everyone pays to see it thinking it will be awesome… again.

I don’t want to see this happen at all.
