In case you’re one of the few fans who haven’t heard yet (where have you been?), after a painful ten year wait, a sequel to the 1999 Troy Duffy cult classic The Boondock Saints has finally been made, and it will be released in select theaters this Friday, October 30. Over the past year or so we’ve seen many production journals, some images, posters, and trailers, and we’ve even had the honor of interviewing cast members Clifton Collins Jr. as well as Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus. And while it’s uncertain who will be able to run out and see the film this Friday, IGN has one more goodie for us to enjoy: the first five minutes of the film.
The footage just basically sets up the movie briefly, showing the brothers hiding out in Ireland when they realize that they need to go back to Boston and deal with someone who’s trying to frame them. One thing I will say: I think I’m more excited than ever having watched these first five minutes. I loved the trailer and watched it many times, but there was still too much worry about whether it could live up to expectations. With this footage, you get instant gratification in the re-introduction of the brothers and their new found anger, and you also get a great dose of humor from our favorite goofball Boston Detectives, Dolly (David Ferry), Duffy (Brian Mahoney), and Greenly (Bob Marley). This doesn’t guarantee greatness in-full yet, of course, but reassuring, it is plenty.
