With Kenneth Branagh taking his name out of the running for the directing duties for the upcoming sequel to his fantastic 2011 superhero picture, Thor, who better to turn to than someone from the hit HBO series Game Of Thrones?
According to Variety, that’s exactly what Marvel is doing. The studio is currently in talks with Thrones helmer Brian Kirk, and would mark his feature directorial debut when the film hits on July 26, 2013.
While plot at this point is up in the air with regards to Thor 2, actor Chris Hemsworth will be back for the sequel, which will likely feature the fallout from the upcoming 2012 ensemble film, The Avengers, or any repercussions from the fellow 2013 release, Iron Man 3.
I personally found the first film to be absolutely fantastic, so a sequel is more than worth it. I think that while much of the sequel hinges upon what The Avengers does both box office-wise and critically, I do think that the original film set up such a good and interesting world, that they could do just about anything to really kick ass.
Here’s an idea: for the sequel, let’s have Thor be re-imagined as a skinny Asian chick who may or may not be gay to make the Marvel U more “diversified”!
