Despite seemingly moving forward swimmingly, behind the scenes, the music side of the impending Hunger Games feature film appears to be a bit more troubled.
Variety is reporting that James Newton Howard will be taking over scoring duties on the film from composer Danny Elfman. Elfman was originally slated to team with T. Bone Burnett [odd as hell], but due to scheduling issues, that has now officially changed.
Howard, an eight-time Oscar nominee, has seen a bit of a resurgence as of late, particularly with his work on The Dark Knight alongside Hans Zimmer, but this is definitely an interesting change of composer. Howard is a very percussive composer, and honestly, it’s going to be all the better for the film to have a composer like this, opposed to someone like Elfman, a composer that’s far more cartoonish and thematic.
Overall, this is actually a change that makes me far more interested to see the film that originally not. What about you?
