My greatest fear for this book finally hit this issue, but on the whole, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #7 was surprisingly the best issue of the series so far! By a long shot!!
While I’m a huge fan of the Turtles, I’m not a fan of their science fiction stories. I’m a fan of them, on Earth, in the sewers, fighting ninjas. Every time they’ve lapsed over into “Turtles in Space” I have immediately lost interest completely. So, you can understand my disappointment when this issue opens in space, with a sci-fi battle. But, writer Tom Waltz quickly turned my worst fears into one of the COOLEST plot points (that I will NOT spoil here) so far in this book.
This issue is SO jammed pack, it’s got enough story for about three issues, really. TONS of reveals and non-stop action. If you’ve ever been a Turtles fan, you’re really gonna want to pick this issue up.
Dan Duncan has yet to disappoint me, and this issue is no exception. He’s got a lot to draw in this issue and he passes with flying colors. Again, I don’t want to go into spoiler territory, but he’s created some fantastic new looks for some familiar characters. All around great art, great page layouts.
This issue, more than any before in this series, is a weird amalgamation of all the Turtles mythos. Cartoon, comic, movie, everything. And it’s really working. It’s great that this comic is so new, yet so familiar. You’re definitely going to want to pick this up. And the first trade was just released, so if you haven’t got this title before, it’s going to be very easy to catch up on.
