As rumors of an expected (and much hoped for) Fallout 4 announcement continue to swirl, another very interesting rumor involving gamemakers Bethesda Softworks and their Fallout franchise has arrived on the ol’ web.
While perusing the United States Patents and Trademarks Office website, someone noticed a certain filing by Bethesda from January 8th. In this filing, Bethesda claims trademark on Fallout for the purposes of “Entertainment services in the nature of an on-going television program set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world.”
Obviously this could just be Bethesda protecting their property to be safe, but then again, one has to think that they would have done that a long time ago. And as the company grows, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to consider branching out to other forms of entertainment with their games—similarly to what Ubisoft is doing.
If this is something that one day comes to be a reality, it would really depend on who was behind the show and where its home would be. We’ve seen apocalypse shows try and fail before (Jericho, for example), and while fans of the Fallout games would be excited by a TV series based on it, it would have to be on the right channel…preferably an HBO, Starz, or Showtime.
Would you want to see Fallout turned into a TV series?
