Zac Efron has really come a long way from his days of being a Wildcat over at the Mouse House. Since putting High School Musical behind him, the actor has been in a plethora of films ranging from comedies to drama. Next year he’ll star opposite Seth Rogen and Rose Bryne in the Nick Stoller comedy Neighbors.
The film centers on your typical family (Rogen and Bryne) living in a quiet and happy neighborhood. But that all changes when a frat boy (Efron) moves right next door, and things go from petty disagreements to all out acts of war. Check out the trailer below.
While Neighbors is definitely a good fit for Rogen and Bryne, Efron’s role is the one that will catch some people off guard. Of course going from films like 17 Again and Charlie St. Cloud to Paperboy and Parkland, it’s really not that surprising. I certainly liked the fact that Efron was sporting a Taxi Driver Robert De Niro look, with Dave Franco‘s Meet the Parents De Niro lurking in the background.
Not sure if anyone else caught this, but it did seem like Bryne was going back and forth from her American accent to her native Australian accent. It’s a minor qualm at best, and something that could be fixed during the ADR process.
Overall, this has a lot of promise and will be sure to deliver plenty of laughs. The film also stars Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lisa Kudrow, Jake Johnson, and Craig Roberts. Neighbors will open in theaters on May 9, 2014.
