Marvel’s latest universe-shattering event has been a pretty compact little story compared to other recent event stories such as Civil War that seemed to span way too many books and take forever to finish. The Cataclysm story will finish in only 5 issues with the February release of Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand #5 from writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mark Bagley.
We have a preview for you of what’s to come in Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand #5 — check it out here below.
When you have a centerpiece like Galactus shaking things up, there’s really no need for a bunch of convoluted storytelling. He’s big, he’s bad, he’s purple, and he’s unstoppable. The few who have had success at delaying the inevitable usually did so via trickery or by making some sort of deal with him.
For the first four issues of Cataclysm: Ultimates Last Stand, Galactus, the “real” Galactus (not the goofy Ga-lac-tus swarm from the Ultimates books), has landed on Earth and has been assembling his machine to eat the planet. These underpowered versions of the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four don’t know how to deal with the creature. In the upcoming issue #5 of the miniseries, the team has one last attempt at stopping Galactus for good.
Marvel promises that “sacrifices must be made – and not everyone is coming back” and that “after this, nothing will ever be the same again.” We’ve heard these sorts of bold statements from Marvel marketing before, but they have already promised that they are doing away with the Ultimate Universe in its current form and this is definitely a fun and exciting way to make that happen.
Check out these images from the upcoming Cataclysm: Ultimates Last Stand #5 and see if you can predict exactly what we are in for after the story is over.
