Tom Hanks was at the New York Rangers hockey game tonight at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, and I don’t know how and I don’t know why, but he had his “friend” and Cast Away co-star Wilson with him.
Hanks was captured on camera at the game holding Wilson. Check out the photo here below posted to the Rangers’ official Twitter account tonight.
Wilson, you might recall, was the actor’s co-star in the 2000 Robert Zemeckis-directed film, which saw Hanks as Chuck, a FedEx employee stranded for over four years on an uninhabited South Pacific island after surviving a plane crash. Wilson also happens to be a volleyball with a bloodied handprint face on it that was Chuck’s best friend on the island, helping him to maintain as much of his sanity as he could under the dire circumstances. Over the course of the movie, the inanimate Wilson becomes a loveable character.
UPDATE – Video of the moment was uploaded to the Rangers official FB page. It looks like someone tossed Wilson to Hanks, who than held up the ball and did a “Let’s go Rangers” chant with it. As the cameras went to Hanks, the music playing was The Police’s “Message In A Bottle,” at the part “Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, another lonely day, with no one here but me.” Check out the video just below:
Hanks is a big Rangers fan and is often spotted at their games. The Forrest Gump actor took selfies with some of the cast of The Walking Dead at a Rangers game at The Garden on October 12, 2014, the day of AMC’s zombie show’s Season 5 premiere. See a photo just below of Hanks with TWD‘s Steven Yeun, Chad Coleman, and Michael Cudlitz, along with Gotham‘s Ben McKenzie and The Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley. (See more from the night over at Daily Mail.)
The actor was last seen on the big screen as Walt Disney in 2013’s Saving Mr. Banks, and lent his voice once again to the animated character Woody in the Toy Story Christmas special, Toy Story That Time Forgot. Up next for Hanks is the Steven Spielberg spy thriller St. James Place, coming to theaters on October 16, 2015.
By the way, the Rangers won tonight’s game over the Bruins 3-2 tonight. See the victory tweet:
