Neil Patrick Harris visited Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night and of course it was almost all about the Oscars. Harris declared himself “Knee deep in Oscar prep,” to which Kimmel immediately quipped, “Have you started working on the show yet?”

Harris said it was going “yeah-ish,” because what is difficult about hosting the last yet biggest awards show is that all the other award show hosts got all the good jokes. Harris hoped that a big scandal would break so there would be some juicy material to talk about. “Maybe you can get caught not being gay or something like that,” suggests Kimmel. “But I tried that in Gone Girl and we know how that ended up,” says Harris with the return.

Other topics covered were the hidden magic room Harris has had in his Los Angeles home and now has in his home in New York, with a button that opens the secret panels, as well as his new live variety show slated to run for 10 episodes in September 2015, which will include audience participation, rigged so that audience member will be surprised, with “gameshow-ish elements.”

The 87th Annual Academy Awards airs live Sunday, February 22nd, 2015, at 8:30pm ET on ABC, with the live Red Carpet arrivals starting at 7pm ET/4pm PT.
