This week’s edition of Digital Wire Blu-ray Releases is slim on new release announcements, but we do have the news on the long-awaited extended cut of one of last year’s biggest blockbusters as well as a pair of genre cult classics getting the high-definition releases they have long richly deserved.
Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon, as well as a list of titles coming out this week.
We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has finalized plans to release the extended “Rogue Cut” of last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past on Blu-ray on July 14, 2015 – fifteen years to the day of the first X-Men‘s theatrical release. Bonus features and technical details have yet to be made known, but this new cut of Days will include 17 minutes of new scenes that reinstates Anna Paquin‘s deleted character arc to the narrative. “It’s a big chunk, a substantial part of the movie,” said screenwriter Simon Kinberg last September in an interview. “We want to give [fans] the fullest picture of the film “” behind the camera, and in front of it.” In the version released theatrically in May 2014, Paquin could only be glimpsed briefly in the final scenes, but her character Rogue’s image was present in the film’s marketing materials. At least now both actress and character will get the send-off they deserve in the best X-movie to date, and I can trade in my Blu-ray of the theatrical cut.
The best werewolf movie since The Howling is about to sink its claws into home video in a big way. Shout! Factory is gearing up to release the cult classic action-horror flick Dog Soldiers on Blu-ray through their Scream Factory imprint on June 23, 2015. The feature directorial debut of future Doomsday/Centurion helmer Neil Marshall, Soldiers stars Kevin McKidd (Grey’s Anatomy) and Sean Pertwee (Gotham) as the leaders of a squad of British troops who find themselves in the battle of their lives against a pack of smart, bloodthirsty lycanthropes. This Blu has been on Scream’s release schedule for a while but its original in-store date was pushed back while the elements to do a vastly improved transfer were located. Check out the full list of extras and decide for yourself if this disc will be worth the wait:

Olive Films has unveiled their June release slate, and the title destined to be of the greatest interest to fans of badass action classics is the immortal Stone Cold, starring former gridiron god Brian “The Boz” Bosworth as a cop who goes undercover to infiltrate a gang of criminal bikers run by Lance Henriksen (Aliens) and William Forsythe (The Devil’s Rejects). Olive will release this over-the-top B-movie masterpiece on Blu-ray on June 23, 2015. No special features have yet been listed, and if this release is anything like the barebones MGM DVD from a few years ago, there won’t be any at all. Olive also has The Thing with Two Heads, Thrashin’, and Soul Plane scheduled for a June release on Blu-ray.
