The opening cinematic for the upcoming reboot of the Hitman video game franchise has been released.
The video is titled “Legacy,” and it acts as a bridge. The game features a prologue mission that’s set in the earlier days of Agent 47 when he first came to join the ICA and first met longtime handler Diana Burnwood, and then the game picks up 20 years down the road at the Paris fashion show we’ve already seen in a gameplay demo. This opening cinematic quickly connects those two time periods, highlighting a few of 47’s notable targets during that time period.
You can check it out below.
Though I describe the game as a “reboot” it’s not exactly rebooting the franchise. But it is shaking things up enough to consider it something of a reboot. Instead of releasing the game all at once like they did in the old days, Hitman will actually be an episodic game with multiple releases over the course of the rest of the year. It will eventually be released as a whole once everything is out. You can read more about the episodic structure right here.
There will also be what developer Io-Interactive describes as “Elusive Targets,” which are temporary contracts for players to keep things fresh. These targets will only be available for a certain amount of time, and whether you complete the contract or miss your opportunity, the target will disappear forever. You can head right here read more on the Elusive Targets.
