‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ Not Going Through 3-Month Reshoot, As Rumored

X-Men: Apocalypse Jean Grey Dark Phoenix

When Fox announced that X-Men: Dark Phoenix would be pushed up from its original November 2018 release to February 2019, most took it as a bad sign. The film, which would mark Simon Kinberg‘s directorial debut, would need some additional photography — meaning, reshoots — after some test screenings, which is part of the entire process to help make improvements for the film. But the new release date was troubling at best. And with much of the cast having already moved on to other things since production ended last year, it would be difficult to get everyone together. Luckily, rumors of a 3-month additional shoot have been exaggerated. More on the story here below.

Collider exclusively broke the news. According to their sources, the film would have reshoots in Montreal, as was mentioned in the rumor. However, it would only be for two weeks, which is the typical number of weeks for reshoots on a film like this. Other blockbuster films make it a priority to have a schedule blocked out for reshoots just in case they need it. And most of the time they do. The report goes on to say that the reshoots will fix the third act and add some new scenes. Again, this is all very typical. And it is nowhere near the amount of time that initial had rumors suggested. Collider is a very reputable source, so it stands to reason that all of this is true.

Unfortunately, the new February date is still set, which means we are a long ways away from seeing anything from the film. That being said, we know that it is going to be a retelling of the Dark Phoenix saga, where Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) finds herself possessed by a mystical galactic force. Jessica Chastain makes her comic book movie debut as a mysterious character.

But a big part of these reshoots is getting key members of the cast together to return. Remember, the film finished production last year, and since then much of the cast has gone on to work on other things. James McAvoy and Chastain are currently in production for IT: Chapter 2, while Turner has just finished the final season of Game Of Thrones. So it’s not clear who will be involved in these reshoots.

That being said, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is not going to reshoot the entire film for three months, but rather just take two weeks to fix a few things.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix opens in theaters on February 14, 2019.
