Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits

The MP3 album deal of the day over at Amazon today is Fleetwood Mac‘s Greatest Hits for only $2.99.

Math time: Typically, MP3 songs sell for $.99 each, which means in order for the $2.99 sale to be worth it for the buyer, there has to be at least four songs on the album worth having. This hits album has 16 tunes, which already makes this a steal, but here’s the four: “Rhiannon,” “Go Your Own Way,” “Dreams,” and “Don’t Stop.”

The album is also available on CD now for $9.99.

Bob Welch

Musician Bob Welch, who was part of the rock/pop group Fleetwood Mac in the era that was in between the band’s original blues sounds of the late 1960s to the later more superstar pop phase that started in the late 1970s, died today at his home in Nashville, TN, in an apparent suicide, a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the chest, reports the Los Angeles Times. A suicide note was left behind by Welch, who had suffered from undisclosed health issues.

Welch was born in 1945 in Los Angeles, CA, to parents who were in the Hollywood industry. His dad was movie producer and screenwriter Robert Welch, who worked with luminaries such as Bob Hope and singer Bing Crosby, and his mother was Templeton Fox, a singer and actress who had appeared various films throughout the mid 20th Century.

Note, this deal is only for today, Sunday, May 1, 2011, til midnight PST.

Fleetwood Mac was the first album for the band after singer Stevie Nicks and singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham joined and their contributions are prominent on the record, especially on what became two of their most popular songs, “Rhiannon” and “Landslide,” both written and performed by Stevie Nicks.
