The concept of adapting a harmless game into a film is nothing new. In fact, it has been done many times before, though its success can be met with varying degrees. That being said, we have reached a new level of low now that we are going for schoolyard games. Blumhouse’s Truth Or Dare tries to mirror the same success of Ouija using the production house’s low-budget formula. And try as the film might, it never reaches those same levels of fright. It desperately tries to scare its audience with the thought of this game haunting us that through its bad dialogue it becomes an unintentional comedy. Not really sure if that is what director Jeff Wadlow intended. But the film lands in between that gray area of its so good that it’s bad but at the same time it’s just flat-out bad.

Universal Pictures has released an official trailer for Truth or Dare, a new supernatural thriller from Blumhouse.

The movie involves a game of Truth or Dare which has deadly consequences for those who lie or don’t complete the dare they’ve been given. It stars Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars, Scream 4), Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf, Scary Movie 5), Landon Liboiron (Hemlock Grove, Terra Nova), Violett Beane (The Flash, The Leftovers), Nolan Gerard Funk (House at the End of the Street, Riddick), Hayden Szeto (The Edge of Seventeen), and Sophia Taylor Ali (Grey’s Anatomy), and is directed by Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2, Never Back Down).

Sixteen years after the last direct-to-video sequel to The Howling was dumped into video stores across the nation like a dirty diaper the series is getting a reboot with The Howling Reborn, coming to DVD and Blu-ray on October 18, 2011.

The movie was written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Joe Nimziki, the former head of advertising for MGM, whose only prior directorial credit was a 1997 episode of the Showtime revival of The Outer Limits. The cast includes Landon Liboiron (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Lindsey Shaw (Pretty Little Liars), but the best known member of the Howling Reborn cast is Ivana Milicevic of Casino Royale and Running Scared fame.
