So while more and more adaptations of Beauty And The Beast begin to pop up, there is one currently in the works, that is going about it in a different way.
Deadline reports that The CW has tapped Smallville star Kristin Kreuk to join the cast of their take on the story, which itself will be loosely based on the cult 1980’s CBS series, formerly starring Linda Hamilton.
Described as a “modern day romantic love story with a procedural twist,” the show will follow “Catherine (Kreuk), a tough-minded NYPD homicide detective haunted by witnessing her mother’s murder nine years ago and the killers’ quick demise at the hands of a Beast. After years of searching, Catherine finally finds the Beast, Vincent Koslow, the survivor of a military experiment that went disastrously wrong, and becomes the protector of his secret life as a superhero.”
While I’m not really all that familiar with the past series, I do really like Kreuk as an actress, and think that this could be one hell of a role for her. I have absolutely no idea why they would go and remake/reboot this version of Beauty And The Beast, but then again, I have no idea why studios do half the things they do, so that’s not all that shocking.
What about you? What do you think?

The difference between this new version and the one from the late 1980s, is that Catherine was a lawyer in the 80s version. who left her father’s practice to work for the DA. I liked Kreuk in Smallville, but I think she’s too young to play a police detective since you need to have a few years walking a beat before you can pass the detective’s exam but the CW does market to a young demographic.
