For years, people have complained that Hollywood is out of fresh ideas. Disney has taken this to the extreme by flat out remaking their animated classics into blended films, half live action, half CGI. First was 2016’s The Jungle Book. This year, Disney broke the bank with Beauty and the Beast, a live action retelling of their 1991 classic that became the first animated film to garner a Best Picture nomination. With the film hitting shelves on Blu-ray and DVD last week, the gang at Screen Junkies gave the near $2 billion mega-hit the Honest Trailer treatment.
Check the video below.
“A tale as old as 1991,†starts the epic voice of Jon Bailey. Turns out, absolutely no one cared that Disney basically copied their own film and did a partial Gus Van Sant “Psycho†job. We meet Belle… again; a beautiful bookworm who lives in the “British-est†part of France. You know the story, so let’s focus on the tiny additions made to liven up the monotony. There’s more background to Belle and Beast’s childhoods, like the plague… kids love the plague! Plus there are new songs… for you to use for bathroom breaks.
In a clever twist, Bailey rehashes lines from the previous Honest Trailer of the animated film, since, hey, this whole film is a rehash of the animated film. And while real beauty lies within, the message may get lost behind all the beautiful members of the cast. Starring: Josh GLAAD, Fabio, Obi Wand, Ian McClocken, and (sing to the tune of the Seal song) Belle’s Mom Kissed by a Rose on the Grave… New Title: Rebooty and the Beast (legit LOL there).
Screen Junkies currently have over 6.1 million subscribers and release a new Honest Trailer every Tuesday. Beauty and the Beast is currently available on Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack now. And despite the jokes, the movie is absolutely amazing. Check out my review of the Blu-rayhere.
