IDW Publishing announced on Wednesday that, in conjunction with England’s 2000 A.D., they will be bringing a brand new Judge Dredd series to American soil this Fall.
It’s a good year for Judge Dredd fans as 2012 marks the 35 anniversary of the character, as well as his return to the big screen starring Star Trek‘s Karl Urban as the Mega-City One lawman. But what comic book fans care about now is the return of the comic book series. Americans will be able to witness the tough as nails, overly forceful lawman in his own series for the first time in 18 years.
Judge Dredd takes place in a dystopian future version of The United States’ east coast and the character is one of the most popular British comic book characters of all time. Dredd was first featured in the second issue of the 2000 A.D. weekly anthology series and has become the series’ longest running characters. Dredd spawned a previous movie starring Sylvester Stallone that didn’t quite do it for a lot of comic fans, but considering all of these announcements, everything seems to working in favor of Dredd fans now.
Creative teams and details have yet to be announced as the new series’ infancy, but considering Dredd’s popularity and the legendary talent that has touched this character, I’m sure that we’re in for some pleasant surprises on that front.
IDW’s Judge Dredd will hit stores this Fall.
I am totally in!!Â
