The newest webisode in the Vikings series, Athelstan’s Journals: Stones and Bones Chapter 2: Death, Athelstan (George Blagden) once again seeks out the Seer’s (John Kavanagh) words. Even though the predictions are gleaned from the gods that are not his own, he says, “You are a prophet of the gods,” to the Seer. This is the struggle he has had almost from the very beginning, questioning his own faith, as he lives and learns from this very different culture.
Check out the video below.
“How long will the gods test us?” asks Athelstan, “I’ve already given so much.”
The Seer scoffs and says Athelstan has given nothing. He warns that a warrior will give his life. It flashes to a battle scene, yet some of the flashes are unfamiliar, and we see some fan favorites in jeopardy. Luckily, none of the scenes show Athelstan in physical jeopardy, but we already know that King Ecbert’s daughter made her “confession” and forgot to receive her penance. I think Athelstan needs to make a little confession of his own.
These webisodes are nice little snacks in between Thursday nights. Be sure to also check out Athelstan’s Journals: Gods & Men & Vows, and Chapters 1-7. Be sure to catch up on Season 3 with our reviews for Episode 1 “Mercenary” and Episode 2 “The Wanderer”. Vikings airs Thursday nights at 10pm on The History Channel. The next episode, “Warrior’s Fate,” is as prophetic as the Seer.
