I normally don’t post rumors, because they usually turn out to be false, but every so often, one will pique my interest. At UGO.com, I found this one rumor particularly amusing because it links Star Trek with — of all people — Tyler Perry.
Back in the summer, I posted some assets for Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? and not only did a few Doomers asked me why in hell I would do such a thing, but I really wondered to myself, Why the hell am I doing this? To my defense, I thought it was a comedy at first, and as as it turned out, we received lots of hits on those posts and positive reader feedback. PEOPLE LIKE PERRY.
Well, precognition was perhaps in play, as it looks like Perry will legitimately make it into the Geek hall of fame, because the rumor is that Perry has joined the cast of J.J. Abram‘s highly anticipated prequel Star Trek XI, which hits theaters December 25, 2008. (And in case it wasn’t blatantly obvious to all who know me … Note to GoD Staff and my family: I got dibs on the Trek XI movie review and the Christmas 2008 festivities will now be relocated to the nearby UA cinema).
If this rumor is true, then BEWARE OF SPOILERS when you click on this link to UGO. Not only does it contain information on the character Perry supposedly plays, but it also contains plot details.
And because I’m dying to talk about the plot details, BEWARE OF SPOILERS below here after the jump.
UGO reports that an informant told them that the day Perry filmed his scenes, director J.J. Abrams told the cast that he was extremely happy to have Perry on board for many reasons, one of which is because Trek XI marks the first time Perry’s appeared in a movie outside his own.
For those of you who don’t know who Tyler Perry is, he’s a playwright, actor, and filmmaker most famous the character “Madea,” an large overbearing woman that Perry cross-dressingly portrays in several of his projects, such as Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea’s Family Reunion.
BEWARE OF SPOILERS
More from UGO’s report:
As for WHO Perry will be playing in Trek XI, he is a human and is the Head of Starfleet Academy, where a young James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and a young Mr. Spock (Zachary Quinto) are cadets. Perry’s character is overseeing a Starfleet hearing where young Kirk is facing expulsion from Starfleet.
And Trek fans can guess WHY Kirk is facing expulsion … as we learned in the second movie Wrath of Khan, Kirk was the only Starfleet cadet to beat the Kobayashi Maru, which tests one’s ability to handle a “no-win” scenario. Kirk beat the test by rigging the simulator so that he could win.
At the aforementioned hear, Kirk gives a typical speeches and demands to know who his accuser is so he can face that person, who apparently witnessed Kirk’s reprogramming of the simulator. That’s when the witness stands up … and it’s none other than Spock stands up!!!!!
END SPOILERS
Well, that’s all UGO is saying at the moment, but they claim to have even more rumors and spoilers to reveal in the coming days. I’ll definitely be on the lookout.
This is all very interesting. I’m curious.
