Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release date: November 11, 2008

You may be asking yourself “Hey, what the hell is this sports stuff on a Geek site!?” and the answer to that is… hell, I don’t know, leave me alone!

As you all know, we cover all forms of media, including DVDs. This paired with the fact that I fancy myself a geek/sports fanatic hybrid who loves himself a little UFC means, a special review for all the other hybrids out there, UFC Classics Collection, Vol. 5-8!

I’ve been watching Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) since around 1993, which is a little before when these DVDs took place. Here we have UFC 5, 6, 7 and 8 which was a time much different than what the sport has now evolved to. Fitting enough, we just very recently had UFC 91 take place, so it’s been a long road.

‘Watchmen’ Trial Pushed Back To January
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

WatchmenIn what’s already a tense situation, Judge Gary Allen Feess has pushed the Watchmen trial back two weeks to January 20, 2009

The trial is set to determine whether Warner Bros. has the right to make and distribute Watchmen, or if Fox owned rights all along. Both studios had requested that the judge make a decision based solely on the summaries presented, but because the contract between Fox and producer Larry Gordon was so open, it was decided that the trial was necessary.

The worst thing about all of this is that Zack Snyder’s film for Warner Bros. is set for a March 6, 2009 release — a mere month and a half or so after the trial’s new set date. With questions swirling as to whether the movie will even get the chance to come out after this trial is over, fans may be panicking a bit. On the other hand, it has been officially documented that Alan Moore giggled for a moment… the first time he’s done so in 36 years.

Two New Castings For ‘Tron 2’
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

TronTron 2 has made two casting announcements for the scheduled 2011 sequel to Disney’s 1982 neon-fest, Tron.

Olivia Wilde (13 on House, Alpha Dog, Turistas) has been cast as a worker in the virtual world who helps fight the villain, which is apparently the same villain from the first film. Also cast is Beau Garrett (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Turistas), who will be playing a siren. The male lead has not been cast yet.

Joseph Kosinski (Logan’s Run [2010]) is directing the sequel which continues the story from the first, which sees a computer programmer get trapped in a computer and forced to compete in the games he programmed.

David Fincher Talks ‘Heavy Metal’ Plans
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

Heavy MetalMTV spoke to David Fincher about his involvement with the newest movie version of the comic Heavy Metal and what his part may be, as well as who gets what story between himself and co-directors Gore Verbinski and Zack Snyder.

It looks like there’s currently no movement on the project as all of these directors are very busy men, but Fincher says they are “…trying to get that made,” so it is still happening for sure.

In regard to his part and what story he covers, Fincher said …

I’m ready to bat clean-up. I’m ready to do whatever story no one else wants to do. We have like twenty-four stories and artwork for it. Zack Snyder is picking one and I think Verbinski has one that he likes. We’re seeing where it ends up. I have time to do one or two and I have dibs on eight or nine, so somewhere in there we’ll figure it out if we can ever get the money together.
