The web has been a bit of a buzz recently as a gigantic pile of images from the new movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has shown up on a Japanese HP site.

No one really knows where they came from but are screenshots from some sort of Japanese trailer or TV spot; most of them are very much blurry and not of good quality at all. To me it looks like someone basically just screen capped a trailer, shot-by-shot, and didn’t really “stop” the video in good spots.

Amusingly, the site is requesting that no one download “their” images, but considering that it does look like they pretty much ripped ’em off from a trailer, there’s one above to check out and you can follow the link to Potter Mania see the rest of them.

Personally, I don’t really see anything that we haven’t seen before, but it might be there if you look harder than I did. There’s a hell of a lot of pictures there to run through, and the site is slow to load, so good luck. Also, if you right-click to try and save, it says they belong to the site with a 2007 copyright, so they could just be older than we think. The very odd thing here is that no one can find this Japanese trailer or whatever it is. It’s a ghost.

Either way, there is a large stock of Harry Potter images for the faithful fans to peek at and try and see something special. I haven’t finished up the book series yet, so I talked to my fellow geeks of doom to try and figure out what’s happening in these images.

• This mysterious Japanese trailer has what appears to be an introduction by star Daniel Radcliffe.
• There are several shots of Harry with Dumbledore in what looks like them traveling to the past by way of a pensieve.
• There’s a lot of shots of Harry with Hermione, and then a few with Hermione and some of their other Gryffindor housemates.
• Jim Broadbent as potions professor Slughorn, show here in what seems like present day and flashbacks, with one of the photos being of him removing one of his own memories.
• A few of Snape: With Harry, with Professor McGonagal, and with Harry’s school boy nemesis Malfoy.
• Close-ups of hands clasped, perhaps fondling a ring; another of an hourglass.
• Eeries images of a very young Voldemort, which we did see already in the U.S. trailer.
• Dumbledore (presumably) on top of a mountain, surrounded by crashing ways.
• Possibly some deatheaters freely flying through the Muggle areas of London.
• A structure up in flames; someone (Bellatrix LeStrange?) standing in front of the flames.
• Harry and Ginny about to kiss (again, we say this for the first time in the U.S. trailer).
• Luna Lovegood wearing the 3D glasses, holding her father’s magazine (this looks like one of the previously released official images).
• Ron in Quidditch uniform, standing goalee.
• Ron on the floor with Harry standing over him (after he’s ingested the poison?).
• Something going down in Diagon Alley.
• One of the unsavory looking people from the Diagon Alley scene, now in his own shot in a field.
• Flying during a Quidditch match.
• An awesome scene of a bridge collapse (image 72 of 75).

I’m sure there’s much more going on in these scenes than meets the eye, and again, the images aren’t all clear and I haven’t finished the series, so I couldn’t pick out everything. Feel free to let me know what I’ve missed.
