The Incredibles is one of my favorite Pixar movies ever made. Naturally being about super heroes, this is definitely the one movie that was ripe for a comic book interpretation. When I first read Mark Waid‘s original interpretation I was extremely upset that it was only four issues. Well BOOM! Kids has since decided to make an ongoing series of The Incredibles and I couldn’t be happier with Mark Waid and Landry Walker‘s writing on the series thus far.

As the story continues in The Incredibles #7 we get a conclusion to the story of Mesmerella and Dash being grounded and powerless. This story was particularly interesting because it takes Dash completely out of his element and has him trying to figure out how to be a hero even without his powers. It is a testament to the writing team’s character development and growth, and is a good sign for issues to come. This is especially important when you have young characters like Dash and Violet in a story.

Another thing the writing team nails in my opinion is the relationship among the family. Whether you look at the parental relationship with Dash or the married couple themselves you can see a very spot-on real family that isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. The Incredibles family real problems and as you see at the end of this issue, the super powers are hurting more than helping at this point.

There was one thing in the issue that bothered me and somewhat confused me. I am not sure if this was a printing mistake or something else, but it seems that a page in the beginning is also at the end. I can understand if this was a flashback how it would work, but it is not very specific or clear in this. So it just seemed out of place to me. Maybe an “earlier that day” could be added in to the next page or something, but it just seemed a bit off to me.

Now to the art: Ramanda Kamarga I would like to thank you for bringing some of my favorite Pixar characters back to life. What Kamarga does with Dash is wonderful and there are a couple panels in particular where the interpretation of super speed is particularly great. That is one of my favorite things to see in a comic is the interpretation of super speed and this is beautifully drawn. The colors by Andrew Dalhouse are especially impressive as well, bringing a lighthearted nature to The Incredibles world.

Overall this is a fun ride and keeps me excited about The Incredibles and has me hoping for a second movie sometime.
