‘Saw 7’ To Finally Bring Back Cary Elwes For Dr. Gordon Answers

The Movie God   |  @   |

Dr. Gordon

Since the very first Saw movie added a new layer to the horror genre, fans have wondered what happened to Dr. Gordon at the end and where in the hell he went.

Five new chapters in the saga of the twisted mind of the Jigsaw Killer have unfolded since then, and it appears that finally, you may just find out the answers to the questions that you’ve been asking. And since Saw VII is reported to be the last in the series, it’s no surprise that producers look to be swinging for one more home run.

Bloody-Disgusting has all of the dirty details on the newest installment, including a brief synopsis and the entire cast listing. This is where it was confirmed that Cary Elwes would indeed be returning in his original role of Dr. Gordon, re-joining Tobin Bell, who was obviously jumping back into the role of Jigsaw. No information has been revealed as to exactly what capacity the Gordon character will be used in –many things have transpired since we last saw him — but it should be interesting to see where they go with it.

Another notable casting is the addition of Sean Patrick Flanery, star of The Boondock Saints, Suicide Kings, and Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. Again, no word on who Flanery might be playing, but judging from the synopsis below, it might just be the Bobby Dagen character.

Elwes’ co-star Monica Potter is not yet confirmed for the movie, but she has been part of the rumored returning cast, so that is still a wait-and-see. Perhaps they decided to just concentrate on Gordon.

Synopsis

As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror…

The first theatrical feature to be shot exclusively on the cutting-edge SI-3D digital camera system, SAW VII 3-D brings the horrifying games of Jigsaw to life like never before. The film stars Tobin Bell, Cary Elwes, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell and Sean Patrick Flanery. SAW VII is directed by Kevin Greutert, produced by Oren Koules, Mark Burg and Gregg Hoffman. SAW VII 3D is a Lionsgate Release. Twisted Pictures Presents a Burg/Koules/Hoffman Production.

I personally lost interest in Saw after the second movie, but it is pretty cool that they got Elwes back. On the other hand, this is yet another movie jumping into the 3D tank. Do you have any interest in Saw VII, or is this all unworthy of a second thought?

  1. always thought elwes delivery was the worst part of the first saw movie…odd.

  2. might be my imagination, but i coulda sworn they answered this in one of the sequels, i kinda recall a cop or somebody finding the original room and saying how another body was found in the hallway outside with it’s foot sawed off? at least i think i remember that.

    Comment by Dax — April 27, 2010 @ 10:59 pm

  3. Dax I think your right. I think they explained it in either Saw 2 or 3

  4. The first Saw was pretty good. Ever since then, the best thing they’ve done was that “Scream Queens” reality series to pick the leading lady.

    Please make it go away!

    Comment by Lorien — April 28, 2010 @ 7:42 am

  5. Hopefully Sean Patrick Flanery just plays his Boondock Saints character and shows up near the beginning to shoot everyone, putting the series out of its misery.

  6. they’re twisitng the money rag of the SAW franchise, just like that of a dish rag, twisting and turning to extract as much water [MONEY] as you can before it is absolutley dry.

    Comment by phil — April 28, 2010 @ 8:27 am

  7. Such a tired, mean-spirited, played-out franchise. The first picture was brutal but compelling. All the others have pretty much sucked, tho I didn’t see the last one. #6 got its ass kicked by Paranormal Activity, and I’m sure this Hallowe’en season there’ll be some other new horror film far more contemporary than this franchise finale.

  8. Why continue with this utter garbage? first one had a nice twist in the end, 2 and 3 where utter crap. Never bothered with any more. Biggest cash cow fail ever.

    Comment by Justin Smith — May 1, 2010 @ 3:47 pm

  9. Justin, I wouldn’t say they were a failure, certainly not from a “cash cow” perspective. Yeah, the sequels have really dropped off in terms of quality, but in terms of money making, Saw 6 was the first one not to make 10x its budget in returns. As long as there is money to made, they planned to keep making them, but 6 didn’t do nearly as well money-wise (only made about 5.5x their budget in returns) and that’s quite a drop-off, which is why I’m sure they decided to merge parts 7 and 8 into one final movie. Even fans of the series are getting tired of it and just aren’t paying anymore.

Big picture though, Lionsgate has made 5 sequels for a total less than the profits they made off the first film alone. It’s a shame how quickly the quality dropped off but they were easy money. As a one-time fan of the series I am hopeful they make the final film a good one, but I’m skeptical.

  10. Maybe a flaschback to Gordon putting a key to Micheal’s eye… Hell yeah!

    Comment by whatchamacallit — May 2, 2010 @ 7:16 am

  11. All of the people complaining about Saw in these comments and the comments on anything Saw related always say the same generic things. I doubt many of you have never actually SEEN a Saw movie. People always say the same thing, “Another one!? The series just needs to end.” There were 10 Friday the 13th movies, 9 Nightmare on Elm Street movies, plus Freddy vs Jason, and the 2 reboot movies. also, by asking “another one!?” everytime the next movie is released only proves you’ve never seen the movies, because most of them have cliffhanger endings. So dont act suprised, damn it.
I do have to say the 1st movie is the best simply because it was new and there were only two really gorey scenes, the reverse bear trap and when Gordan saws off his leg. After the 2nd movie you expect the twist at the end, so you’re constantly guessing which kinda distracts from the film.

    Comment by Joe — May 11, 2010 @ 3:32 pm

  12. And by the way, no one is forcing you to see these movies! Don’t like it? Don’t see it, it’s that simple.

    Comment by Joe — May 11, 2010 @ 3:33 pm

  13. Joe Makes a good point. No One is forcing people to go see these movies, but still h it has gone downhill sense the fourth and even that kinda ran out of ideas. But still great movies great series, and im sure me and lots of other people are looking forward to the last installment of the saw series. And hopfully it will be somthing that will everyone will be impressed over to make up for saw 6.

  14. Dr. Lawrence Gordon is one of the most revered SAW characters–bringing him in SAW 7 will reveal several things you did not know about him–i myself hope that somehow the SAW 7 movie end with Dr. Lawrence Gordon saying the words “Game Over” to Detective Hoffman.

  15. if any of you all can pay attention,…,doctor gordons dead body was never shown in any of the saw films..
by cutting off his foot , he passed the test and what hospitol did john’s wife bring the envelope to in saw 6 ???????
watch all six, becauseall the movies are nothing but one gigantic puzzle that the fans are suppose to put together while watching.the questions are what makes the movies interesting.

    Comment by mad-matty — May 20, 2010 @ 2:10 pm

  16. and by the way…., when they said ther was another body in the hallway, they were refering to danny glovers descovered body..

    Comment by mad-matty — May 20, 2010 @ 2:12 pm

  17. joe I must agree with you on that but you forgot jason goes to hell and freddy 5 through 8. Oh yeah let’s not forget jason x. I think unlike most franchise they have kept the story line with saw movies and they all can be followed and one coinside with the other. I always wondered what happened to dr gordon myself. As far as I remember nothing was ever said about him. I assumed jigsaw went back and cleaned up when he went to clean up behind amanda. I am curious as to how the go end this cause I wanna know does the detective bleed to death or what?

    Comment by chiara — June 10, 2010 @ 2:39 am

  18. Sorry, but in Saw 5, when Agent Strham starts investigating
that if Hoffman is Jigsaw partner, he took all Jigsaw files from FBI and there is one paper where are writen all Jigsaw victims. Dr. Gordon is on the list, so hes dead, and hes not coming back.

    Comment by XXIII — June 10, 2010 @ 1:59 pm

  19. Just because his name is on the list, doesn’t mean they found his body. He was a known victim because his wife knew. I suspect that dr. Gordon was converted and joined Johns (Jigsaw) flock. We know he doesn’t have his foot, they showed it all old and nasty in one of the later movies. I just had a 2 day saw movie marathon, but I’m gonna watch them again and make sure there is no body shown. If there is and they try to act like he’s not dead, I will still see the movie, but I will not enjoy it.

  20. hey guys, i know for a FACT that dr. gordon is in saw 7 and is alive. go to imdb.com and type in saw 7 then look at the main characters……cary elwes is right there in the top!!

  21. I am a huge saw fan. I love to watch these and I feel like every time that I see them I learn something new.I understand why some people are tired of these movies, but there are some of us that would watch them forever if they would keep making them. I can’t wait until saw 7 comes out. I hope that it makes so much money that they do make an 8,9, and 10. I wish that people would stop saying how stupid they feel this franchise is. I think that it is the only horror movie that actually makes sense. I think that they are geniuses for coming up with this motive.

    Comment by Brandi — June 30, 2010 @ 11:01 am

  22. SAW 6 was good cant say the same for 5 though. but i believe Dr.gordon was behind alot of it..if you notice in SAW 2 at the begining when the victim, had that face trap on and they key was being inserted in his eye they showed someone putting the key in his eye..the guy was LIMPIN!! go see for urself..also Jigsaw was a engineer not a SURGERON there’s no way he could have been putting those objects, suck as keys, etc etc in someones body especially the eye without doing damage, had to be a dr. All that medical equpiment they had that stuff isn’t so easy too get online…My question is what about officer riggs, yea he failed the game but they actually didn’t show him dead..I also think that girl that was on that marry go round was in on it, @ the begining of saw 6 she had a box and was looking strange at her other co-workers..also when MR.E had to save only 2 ,he clamped down on her before the shot gun even loaded, as thought she was suppose to live or something, she was too calm in the merry go round trap..ITS A GOOD FILM just watch!

  23. ALSO the only reason Paranormal Act. beat saw 6 was because of all the hype..That movie was dumb ass hell too!!! I bet it wont beat it this yr I BET YEA!

    Comment by kim — July 10, 2010 @ 1:34 am

  24. Yes Dr. Gorden’s name was on the list, but NOO that does not mean that he’s dead! If you look on the Saw website, It has victims and statuses of all of the people he’s done things to. Dr. Gorden’s status is UNKNOWN but likely dead. But as far as we all know, he’s not. and PS PARANORMAL ACTIVITY SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Comment by Cat — July 31, 2010 @ 7:35 pm

  25. Oh and also Kim, In SAW V they do tell us that Officer Riggs Died from blood loss from being shot and also At the memorial/press conference in Saw V, photographs of the five dead officers are on display, labeled with their names; Rigg’s picture is shown

    Comment by Cat — July 31, 2010 @ 7:39 pm

  26. Certainly Dr. Gordon is still alive. These movies are too brilliant not to answer the question of his fate. If you recall in the start of Saw, Dr. Gordon was noticing every clue, such as the new clock on the wall, and the whisper of follow your heart on the tape recorder. His character is very smart and seemed to have an understanding of why Jigsaw did what he did. that could go in 2 directions. Either he is the one to ultimately carry on the Jigsaw legacy, or he is the one smart enough to put an end to it all. Whatver they come up with though im sure most of us wont see it coming.

    Comment by Johnny — August 18, 2010 @ 4:51 pm

  27. am a big saw fan ive watched them many times and i promise yeah that they have never explained what happend to dr gordon they did say in the third one that another dr has gone missing they have never said a body has been found so jigsaw probly caught up to him afda he cralled out of the bathroom then put him in another trap or recruited him either way hes not dead coz jigsaw does not kill people.

    Comment by tony — August 20, 2010 @ 10:51 am

  28. I am one of the biggest Saw fanatics you’ll meet and a HUGE supporter of the return of Dr Gordon! I too have said all along that Dr Gordon was involved, even while watching the first movie! Cary Elwes is a decent actor, but in the original Saw, he seemed… off. Question is, was he “Off” as an actor, or because his character knew more than he let on? We could disect this for hours, all the way down to what Zepp told Gordon’s daughter just before he was abducted for his test. “Daddy’s going away for a while” hile this is true that he would be going away, (for his test) The test took place over a matter of hours…. That’s not “A while”! I could go on with my theories for hours!

Having said that, the Saw films bank on that big surprise at the end. Even people who don’t like the Saw films will agree that there is a ton of evidence that Gordon is involved! This fact alone leads me to believe (And quite frankly, for the sake of shock value, almost hope) that Dr Gordon will be back to get the fans cheering and will simply die a sudden, unexpected death, or have no real impact on the ending of the series! just saying… Thats would be about the biggest twist of all! The answer is….There is no answer!

  29. If you’ve seen the first 6, you know of course Dr. Gordon is in the flock. The end will reveal the whole time-line with one final gruesome lesson to show everyone. The end result is meant for everyone to question how they will handle their individual choice to survive.

    Comment by Jerry — September 11, 2010 @ 12:19 am

  30. I am big fan of SAW series too, it is a good movie and worth to see at all…
Well, for Dr Gordon i think he involved with Jiggsaw since the first movie…!!
Do you remember the very first movie theres a scene that show Dr Gordon’s penlight on the crime scene…??
And theres no screen that jiggsaw or zep stole the penlight…??
Maybe jiggsaw punish him because of his careless and set him into a trap, well thats just my opinion…
Cant wait for SAW VII and its on 3D, hell yeah…!!
