Earlier this month a rumor made the rounds that Mike Judge might be working on 30 brand new episodes of his 1990s animated hit series, Beavis and Butt-Head.
The New York Post has made fans of the show who have longed for a return very happy today. Sources from MTV have confirmed that these rumors are not rumors at all, and that Judge is indeed working on new episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head. It’s not clear if the number of new episodes is 30, but in any case some new animated stupidity is on the way to us.
According to the source it looks like the cheapish “drawn on your notebook during class” animation style will remain intact, though this probably isn’t as crucial as it sounds. A movie version of the show called Beavis and Butt-Head Do America was released in 1996 using a little bit more refined animation, but still worked well. So long as they stick with one of these two and don’t make any major changes fans should be content.
The new episodes will also bring back something else to MTV: actual music videos. The network, whose name stands for Music Television, has been over-run and taken over by mostly terrible reality shows over the years, leaving the music video part of the programming extinct.
While full videos won’t be shown so much, the eternally stupid high school students who somehow have their own house will make their return 14 or so years later to watch and critique all the music they’ve missed. We’ve seen a lot of terrible music in the time since the duo left the air, and there’s something comforting about the thought of them coming back to let us know how they feel about it all.
That is so awesome. BTW – they don’t have their own house; it’s Butthead’s mom’s house; she’s just never at home.

I am glad about this, but am I the only one that finds it sad that MTV actually has to go back to the 90s to find a show to play in 2010?
The fact that most of us are happy about this shows the sad state of affairs MTV is in with its reality garbage. If MTV were still the powerhouse it was in the 1990s, we’d probably all be up in arms over taking a classic out of its time period.
But because MTV is lame and pathetic now, they could use a reminder of what they once were.
Lets hope Beavis and Butthead is the start of a new but old direction for MTV. I am ready for the days of reality tv to be over.

Here! Here! I totally agree!!! Huh! Uhhh! Huh!
In the immortal words of Butthead, “REALITY TV SUCKS!!!”
“Uh, bring us back instead or something?!” :)
But in all seriousness, REALITY TV on a network called MTV (Music Television) blows big hairy donkey balls!!!
All of those ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE shows blow massive chunks!!!
Bring back REAL MUSIC VIDEOS!!! :D :)
