Listen up all you Southern Californians! Here’s certainly something to “woo woo” about! April 1st at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia is April Stooge Day, in parlance with the upcoming release of the Farrelly Brothers new film, The Three Stooges!
And this exciting news is also something to “nyuk, nyuk” about as well, as they are giving the first 500 people waiting in line that day access to enter the park one hour before opening. Those lucky folks will be also be able to ride the new thrill ride, “Curly’s Colossus” and the first 10 people will also be the fortunate ones to get to the head of the line. Is dressing up as your favorite Stooge of the legendary trio also encouraged? “Why Soitainly!”
The Three Stooges are one of the most famous comedy acts in American cinema history. Starting in the early part of the 20th Century, the stooges three, (comprised of Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Jerome “Curly” Howard) set a new standard for slapstick comedy, as their unabashedly politically incorrect comedy, complete with pie throwing, slaps to the face, eye poking and sticking their tongues out at all forms of authority continue to thrill and delight audiences to this very day.
The Farrelly Brothers, (There’s Something About Mary, Hall Pass, Dumb and Dumber) have written (with Mike Cerrone) and directed a new Three Stooges comedy, set for release in theaters on April 13th. It puts the three hapless boys into the 21st Century, while keeping the old narrative and style of the group intact. Chris Diamantopoulous (from the TV show 24) has the role of their “leader” Moe, with his bowl haircut and crabby demeanor; Sean Hayes (Will and Grace) tackles the role of Larry, who is clueless and usually a foil for Moe; and Will Sasso (Mad TV) who fills the shoes of the incomparable Curly, dumb as a tack yet retains a lovable attitude offset by his immense girth and inability to handle any form of common sense. The three personalities of these men mesh into a chemistry that creates situations at once manic, wild, and downright hilarious.
April is certainly going to be a memorable month in the annals of Stoogedom, and April Stooge Day at Six Flags Magic Mountain will certainly be a great kick off to a month of hijinks, hilarity, and slaphappy mayhem! In addition to the new Curly’s Colossus ride, there will a chance to win prizes and tickets to the film throughout the day at the amusement park.
So make sure to head on down early and get your “Curly Shuffle” on! At first of course I thought this day was commemorating yours truly, Stoogeypedia, but I’ll gladly take a back seat and yield to those kings of comedy any old day! “Nyuk Nyuk!”
Oh, and remember, just because you’re dressed like Curly, doesn’t mean you don’t need an admission ticket! All April Stooge Day attendees need to purchase an admission ticket to Six Flags Magic Mountain, so for April Stooge Day costume tips, tickets, and further details, visit: www.sixflags.com/AprilStoogeDay.
