You never know what you are going to get with something from Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. On one hand they penned amazing scripts for Star Trek and Mission: Impossible III. On the other hand they penned some pretty terrible scripts for Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Cowboys & Aliens. The two also have a couple of producing credits under their belts.
So in addition to producing the Ender’s Game adaptation, polishing the script for the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, and producing the illusionary caper flick Now You See Me, they will be providing some influential insight for the reboot of The Mummy that Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts is putting together with producer Sean Daniel and also the reimagining of Van Helsing with Tom Cruise attached to star as the lead.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Cruise being attached to star in the new Van Helsing movie. The actor was attached to star in the reimagining of the monster hunter back in 2010 when Guillermo Del Toro was rumored to direct, but ultimately had to decline in the end because the two were set to work on At the Mountains of Madness, which has since been dropped by Universal. The most recent incarnation of Van Helsing was seen in 2004 with Hugh Jackman taking the titular role.
As aforementioned, the two will also be working on the new Mummy reboot that Prometheus writer Jon Spahts has been scripting for some time. Since nether of them will be polishing the script, it should be interesting to see how their influence impacts both of the scripts.
