If you’re excited to explore the ultimate Elder Scrolls open world map in The Elder Scrolls Online, that excitement is about to be elevated. Because the game isn’t just about exploring a massive map that includes previous game locations visited in Morrowind, Oblivion, and most recently, Skyrim. It also includes a story and plenty of quests, which of course means voice actors are necessary.
Bethesda Softworks has announced the official voice cast for The Elder Scrolls Online, which is being developed by ZeniMax Online Studios, and it is an impressive line up. You can see who’s on board, who they’re voicing, and watch a cool video of some of the actors talking about and recording lines for the game below.
First up is legendary Oscar-nominee John Cleese (Monty Python, A Fish Called Wanda, Silverado), who will voice Caldwell, a lost soul who’s cheerful and maybe a little bit crazy in a charming way.
Next is Bill Nighy (Shaun of the Dead, Pirates of the Caribbean, Love Actually), who voices High King Emeric, a merchant prince who through determination and some luck wins the throne.
Kate Beckinsale (Underworld, The Aviator, Pearl Harbor) voices Queen Ayrenn, leader of the Aldmeri Dominion and Queen of the High Elves, who has a crown but is much more comfortable wielding her blade.
Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Caligula, Star Trek: Generations) takes on the voice of primary antagonist Molag Bal, the Daedric Prince of domination and enslavement of mortals and creator of vampires, and a name fans of the series should be familiar with.
Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, Frida, An Education) lends his voice to an old wizard and politician named Abnur Tharn who is head of the Elder Council of the Empire.
Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, The King’s Speech, Fantastic Mr. Fox) offers his talents to the role of The Prophet, a mysterious blind man who helps the player find their soul.
Other voice cast includes Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter, who has been a voice actor for the Elder Scrolls series going back to 2002’s Morrowind, reprising her Skyrim role of Azura; Peter Stormare (Fargo, Armageddon, The Big Lebowski) plays Jorunn the Skald King, a monarch who led his people into an unlikely alliance; Kevin Michael Richardson (American Dad!, Family Guy, Lilo & Stitch) as martial artist and master swordsman Sai Sahan; Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect, BioShock Infinite, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) as Lyris Titanborn, a Nordish half-giant who also helps the player along with Gambon’s Prophet character; and Jim Ward (WALL-E, Despicable Me 2), who will voice Mannimarco, a High Elf wizard who was exiled for raising the dead, including the world’s most powerful necromancer.
The Elder Scrolls Online will be released on PC on April 4, 2014, and on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in June.
