If you’re a fan of movies, such as Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies or the Alien franchise for example, who also happens to play a lot of video games, then one day later this year will be particularly exciting for you.
It was recently announced that the impressive looking new survival horror game Alien: Isolation would be released on October 7th. Now comes word that the latest Lord of the Rings and Hobbit-related video game, titled Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, will also be released on the 7th of October. I sense many personal and sick days being taken.
In addition to announcing a release date, a new story trailer has also been released for Shadow of Mordor. You can see that, as well as a gameplay demo for the game below.
As far as the new story trailer goes it’s nothing that will change your life. In fact, it might even have a negative effect, setting up a story from the time period between the events of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings that doesn’t sound all that original (man’s family murdered, seeks revenge—that whole song and dance). But then there’s the gameplay demo, which makes the game look much more promising. A game set in Middle-earth that’s heavily inspired by the Assassin’s Creed series? Sounds good to I. It will no doubt be interesting to see how the final product fares this fall.
