We’ve followed Jon and Suzie on their time-stopping sexcapades as they Robin Hooded their way through town to save the library Suzie works at. They’ve had a run in with the Sex Police – a vigilante group with the same clock-blocking powers as our protagonists. Now Jon and Suzie try to put their bank heist days behind them, but the Sex Police won’t back off. So how do you have a normal relationship when every time you diddle your bits, sex ninjas come looking for you?
Where the first five issues were busy introducing the characters and setting up the mechanics of the world, Sex Criminals #6 focuses almost entirely on Jon and his struggle with ADHD and its “attendant comorbid disorders like Oppositional Defiance Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder”¦” Small cracks in the relationship between Jon and Suzie are also starting to show, which leads to some great moments of introspection for the characters. Overall, this issue seemed more “˜in the moment’, which was a nice change of pace. The last few issues had some momentum problems as it jumped around from past and present, but here the story feels more streamlined.
Matt Fraction‘s writing is as lively as ever. It reads the way people talk, which is tough to pull off, yet Fraction does it in every issue. Chip Zdarsky‘s art is impeccable. Half the fun of reading through each issue is catching the nuance in the character’s movements, or the small details in the world around them.
Continuing one of the great modern stories by ratcheting it up to a new level of awesome, Sex Criminals #6 is not to be missed.
