Following the news that Sony would be releasing a female-led spinoff film in the Spider-Man universe, comes word that Carnage could be a part of the Venom spinoff film, which is being co-written and directed by Alex Kurtzman. Ed Solomon is co-writing with Kurtzman. Little was known about the film other than it would involve Spider-Man’s greatest villain turn anti-hero. We don’t even know if it will go that route, but assuming they want to build a franchise out of this, they might as well try to make him one.
Now comes a rumor that the spin-off could be titled Venom Carnage, which would mean that the film would be already jumping into the deep end by having Venom fight his greatest nemesis, Carnage. Hit the jump to learn more.
Deadline, who was first to report on the news, says that Sony is eyeing Venom Carnage to be released in 2017. This means that the studio would be releasing two Spider-Man spin off films in one year.
While we don’t know much about the film itself, we can assume that it would pit the two symbiotes against each other. The original comics had the two suits having alien origins, with Venom being the first suit to be brought back to Earth, and giving birth to a spawn called Carnage. The Ultimates had the suit being genetically built, and Carnage being a product of Spider-Man’s blood mixing in with the Venom suit. Regardless of their origins, Venom and Carnage have always had a rivalry.
Fans are familiar with the symbiotes changing hosts from time to time, so there is a chance that Kurtzman may not follow the comic book lore. We’ll just have to see how the film progresses.
