Below I review the latest episode of The CW’s DC Comics series The Flash, titled “Tricksters.”
Spoiler alert! Although I do really try to keep those to a minimum.
Last week, Barry (Grant Gustin) had to face the consequences of going back in time by one day and not listening to Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh). The advice was to do everything the exact same way. However, Barry just could not let Mark Mardon hurt the Captain again and send a tsunami barreling towards Central City, so he just quickly imprisoned him. Unfortunately, that meant Iris (Candice Patton) did not remember professing her love to Barry, so denied it. Unbeknownst to Barry, he also reversed Reverse (haha — reversed reverse) Flash killing Cisco (Carlos Valdes). Since time had a way of messing with you if you messed with it, Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), his little sister Golden Glider (Peyton List), and Heatwave (Dominic Purcell) returned to our delight and to Barry’s non-delight. Barry came to two realizations. One — he figured out that Dr. Wells is Dr. Evil (not literally), and he had to leave Captain Cold alone, as long as there was no more death, in order to keep his identity a secret.
The Flash 1.17 “Tricksters” review: It opens with that pivotal scene 15 years ago as Flash and Reverse Flash fought around Barry’s mom. But it’s extended. We see Reverse Flash get stuck in the past without a way back. He unmasks himself and… watch it! My mouth hung open.
Parachutes with exploding presents are the signature of a copycat trickster and the real Trickster (Mark Hamill) is pissed at this fraud. Or is he?
Trickster: “A day without casualties was like the Cubs winning the pennant.”
Cisco said “Felicity-caliber.” Love Arrow references.
There’s a peek into Dr. Wells’ past. I don’t know what to think about him now. Barry has convicted him in his mind. But there is reasonable doubt in ours now. It’s all wonderfully messed up.
No way! Big time direct Star Wars reference! There’s also a Master-Padawan moment. I so want to talk about this episode with everyone I have ever met.
Barry reveals himself to not one, but two people. At this point he should just tell everyone.
This might have been the best episode of the season thus far. And the trailer for the next episode promises one even better.
The next episode, “All Star Team Up,” an Arrow/Flash crossover airs Tuesday, April 14th at 8pm.

It was an awesome episode. Flash is one of those series that get better with each episode. Grant Gustin kept on saying no will believe the reveal of the Reverse Flash and he was right.

I can’t even believe how good it has gotten.
