In the past few weeks there have been talks of Tron 3shooting in Vancouver this fall. The tentatively titledTron: Ascension will bring back Joseph Kosinski as director. While reports suggested that Garrett Hedlund would be returning to reprise his role as Sam Flynn, it was unclear if Olivia Wilde would be returning. At the end of Tron: Legacy, it was revealed that her character, Quorra, had made it out of The Grid, and transferred herself into the real world.
Now a new report says that she is signed on to appear, and also confirms that Hedlund is on board for the sequel as well. While some may have doubted the sequel even happening, it appears that Tron 3 is on, though we have yet to hear of a confirmation from the Disney themselves. Hit the jump for more.
While we still don’t know much about the film itself, with the studio keeping the plot under wraps at the moment, the report from THR focuses on the casting aspect of the movie. It is also still unclear if any of the other unconfirmed characters seen in the Tron: Legacy will return, and if the actors who played them will reprise their respective roles.
The film is expected to begin production in Vancouver this fall. Justin Springer will be involved as a producer. With all of this talk of a Tron 3, it’s a bit strange that they haven’t officially confirmed the film as of yet. For all we know they could make a surprise announcement either at San Diego Comic-Con this summer or D23 Expo — my money is on the latter.
Wilde was recently in the Blumhouse Production film Lazarus Effect. Hedlund appeared in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken last year, and can next be seen in Joe Wright’s Peter Pan reinvention, Pan.
Legacy grossed $400 million worldwide at the box office.
