When I was younger, Michael Bay was the coolest director around. I skipped my junior high school prom to go see The Rock. When I found out he was going to destroy Earth in 1998’s Armageddon, I was hyped up. So imagine how awesome my Tuesday becomes when today’s Screen Junkies Honest Trailer is in fact… Armageddon!

Narrator Jon Bailey takes us back to the Michael Bay of old… “Before “˜transforming’ into the Michael Bay we all know, and hate.” He immediately makes the Deep Impact reference as 1998 was a year of movie clones (along with Antz and A Bug’s Life). In maybe one of the funniest comparisons made in over 100 Honest Trailers, Bailey calls Armageddon – Taco Bell, “looks good on the outside, but DO NOT think about what’s inside.”

The trailer highlights all the now-typical Bay-isms like constant yelling, over the top explosions (even the title of the movie goes boom), guns on spaceships, AND space dementia! In the best part, they play on the mind numbing question of why they had to train oil drillers to be astronauts, rather than vice versa; even incorporating Ben Affleck quotes from the DVD commentary. When he asked Bay the same question, he got this as a response: “Shut the F*CK up!”

There’s also the creepy romance where Liv Tyler is busy dealing with on-screen dad, while her real life dad (Steven Tyler) sings in the background. They go back to the joke in the STARRING section where she is credited as “Da Da Dad Looks Like a Lady.” They end with even more Affleck commentary that solidifies this as one kick ass Honest Trailer, and makes me a bigger Affleck fan by the minute.
