Last year we found out about an amazing looking game called Cuphead, a side-scrolling platformer game uniquely presented in the same style as an old 1930s animated cartoon.
The game is on hand at Gamescom 2015, where various people are getting to actually play it. And while it still looks awesome, the 10-minute gameplay video and others you can find online reveal something about Cuphead: it’s really, really hard. Like Dark Souls, you will likely be dying a whole lot.
You can read more about the game and check out the 10 minutes of gameplay as well as a recently released trailer below.
Back when we first found out about the game, we found out that it wouldn’t be fully released all at once, that the plan was to actually keep releasing “episodes” filled with 10-15 boss fights and to ultimately break the record for most boss fights in a run-and-gun game.
Here’s a description of the game:
Cuphead is a classic run “˜n’ gun set in the style of a one-on-one fighting game universe. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930″²s, the visuals and audio were painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional cel animation (hand drawn & hand inked!), watercolor backgrounds, and live jazz recordings.
Cuphead is set to be released on Xbox One and PC at some point in 2016.

Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single player or co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets. Cuphead is all action, all the time. Do you have what it takes?
