Did you stand up and shout “I need a sequel to this immediately!” after watching the extraordinary horror flick The Cabin in the Woods? Well…don’t go getting too excited. A sequel to the movie is not something that’s happening. At least not yet. There is still hope that the movie will happen someday, but when or if that day will ever come is unknown.
Drew Goddard, creator and writer of Netflix’s Daredevil series, writer of episodes of TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias, and LOST, and writer on movies such as Cloverfield, World War Z, and most recently The Martian, made his feature directorial debut with Cabin and wrote the screenplay along with Joss Whedon. Goddard spoke recently about the possibility of a Cabin in the Woods 2, saying that the studio actually wants to do it but some things have to happen first.
See what he had to say below.
Speaking to Den of Geek during a junket for The Martian, Goddard was asked about the sequel:
“The studio wants to do it. They’ve come to us.The funny part is, I don’t think we planned that movie to do a sequel, you know?”
The website then mentioned that the ending of the original didn’t really set up a sequel, to which Goddard responded:
“It doesn’t. But that being said, the fun thing about Cabin is, the rules are pretty crazy. We get away with a lot of crazy stuff. So, I’m sure we could figure it out if we got inspired to. I know Joss and I both feel like we don’t want to tarnish what we did with the first one. With a sequel, we’d only do it if it made us laugh hard enough, I suppose.”
Finally, when asked if there were any ideas being floated around, Goddard replied:
“Yeah, we don’t know. There’s nothing in the hopper right now, but who knows? The way Joss and I work, we might wake up tomorrow and go, ‘let’s go do that,’ or whatever.”
The Cabin in the Woods definitely doesn’t feel like a movie that needs a sequel, but if Goddard and Whedon came up with something, I’d be right there in line with everyone else to see what they came up with.
Where would you like to see a sequel go?

I loved Cabin in the Woods. I really think there shouldn’t be a sequel. It ended perfectly. With that being said I probably go see a sequel if they made one.
