Natalie Dormer in The Forest

October is one single hour away now, which means it’s time to get excited about binge watching lots and lots and lots of horror flicks. Though not as good as watching full movies, trailers for horrors you may or may not watch in the future are also always a good way to stay in the Halloween spirit.

One such upcoming horror is titled The Forest, which stars Games of Thrones, The Hunger Games, and The Tudors star Natalie Dormer as a woman searching for her missing sister. The movie is set in the Japanese forest Aokigahara, also known as the Sea of Trees or the Suicide Forest, because it has the eerie distinction of being a place that people go to to take their own lives.

You can learn more and watch the trailer for the movie below.

SYNOPSIS:

A supernatural thriller set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest. A young American woman, Sara (Natalie Dormer of “Game of Thrones” and “The Hunger Games”), goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate.

The Suicide Forest has been a location in various movies and TV shows and so on, such as the recent Sea of Trees from director Gus Van Sant and starring Matthew McConaughey, Ken Watanabe, and Naomi Watts, and the paranormal investigation series Destination Truth, because obviously a place like this is said by some to be haunted. Many videos on the forest can be found online, many of which are probably better to avoid, but this unsettling story from VICE is a sad one to check out if you are interested in learning more about it.

The Forest is directed by Jason Zada, a writer on last year’s The Houses October Built making his feature directorial debut, and also stars Taylor Kinney, Yukiyoshi Ozawa , Stephanie Vogt, Eoin Macken, and more.

The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 8, 2016.
