While it’s not really news, The Walking Dead and The Boondock Saints star Norman Reedus is grabbing some headlines for saying’s he’d be down for taking on a role that actually makes lots of sense for him: Johnny Blaze, better known as Ghost Rider. See what Reedus had to say below.
Reedus’s Walking Dead character, Daryl Dixon, often navigates the zombie apocalypse on a bike, and the actor even has a new reality series on AMC starting soon called Ride with Norman Reedus in which he, quite simply, travels around on a bike with friends in different locations (see a preview of the show below). So starring in a new Ghost Rider could be a perfect match.
When asked if he would be interested in the Ghost Rider if Marvel, who once again owns the rights to the character, he said:
“Hell yeah. It would be a blast. Do I get a skull face that’s on fire and all that stuff? Fuck yeah. I’m down.”
The question is, if this were to become a reality, would it be in a new movie or would it be in a TV series? Though Reedus said he dug the Nicolas Cage movies, they didn’t do so hot on the big screen. No, no—with shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, as well as the upcoming Punisher, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, a Ghost Rider series (which has been whispered about) would fit right in on Netflix. Blade is also a character that’s been mentioned for a possible Netflix show, another franchise Reedus is familiar with having starred in Guillermo del Toro’s Blade II. Wesley Snipes has expressed interest in reprising that role.
If they were to do a series, Reedus’s involvement would depend greatly on his Walking Dead schedule. I can’t imagine it’d be easy to do both, but not impossible. The other options would be waiting for that series to end—which could be a long, long time—or for the show to off Daryl…and we all know what happens if they did that.
Would you want to see Reedus play Ghost Rider?
