The game isn’t over yet for Sherlock Holmes; in fact, based on the way Sherlock Season 3 ended and what the 2016 special “The Abominable Bride” told us, it has only begun. The Season 4 teaser that was shown to us at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this summer says that everyone in Sherlock’s inner circle is threatened, but other than that, we don’t know much about the overall arc or what stories exactly Steven Moffat will draw from that will inspire each episode (there’s are some hints).
Now PBS has released a brand new image that doesn’t tell us much about Season 4, but does set the tone. Check out the image here below.
The image below of Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) just standing there, with Sherlock in a deep in thought pose while Watson looks away from him, almost as if something caught his attention. Other than those minor details, the photo doesn’t have much to offer us. The teaser trailer did a much better job of doing that, but still, the photo is a nice way to keep us entertained until the show’s premiere in 2017.
As for who Toby Jones will be playing in season four, we know he’ll be a villain, and there’s word that he will be Culverton Smith, a character from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Adventure of the Dying Detective. This would line up with one of Moffat’s 3-word hint for Season 4: “Thatcher,” “Smith,” and “Sherrinford.”
Season 4 will also see Mark Gatiss, Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves, and Louise Brealey reprising their respective roles.
