Last season on Once Upon A Time, our Storybrooke residents traveled to Camelot, and met King Arthur who was evil and Merlin who was good. Emma (Jennifer Morrison) started there as a dark one, and her loved ones tried to save her. She, in turn (not the best in the decision department), saves Hook’s life by turning him into a dark one. He acts accordingly until the end, when he decides to die heroically instead. My Hero! Zelena (Rebecca Mader) finally found her true love, but he was so bad, he was king of the Underworld, Hades (Greg Germann). Her true love killed Regina’s, and we were so sad to see Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) leave her. They met Brave and Lancelot, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Hercules and Dorothy, and were swept to many lands as this fairy tale often takes us.

Spoilers below.

Once Upon A Time 6.1 “The Savior” review: Many years ago… it starts with Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz)! Jafar (played by The Mummy’s Oded Fehr) speaks of Aladdin being a broken savior, alluding to the fate of them all. You never hear, “… and they lived happily ever after.” Aladdin’s hand shakes.

In the midst of an Emma/Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) make-out session, quaking interrupts them (and not the good kind). They and the rest of the town show up and see a blimp. Apparently, it holds people form the land of untold stories, and are Hyde’s (owner of Storybrooke) new friends. The blimp (dirigible) crashes, but the occupants have scattered. Dr. Jekyll (Hank Harris) thinks he can make something out of this stuff to subdue Hyde (Sam Witwer). Emma gets the shakes like Aladdin did.

Rumple (Robert Carlyle) finds out from Hyde that he may be able to wake Belle (Emilie de Ravin) up if he enters her dreams. He lays her out and pours the sand, but when he gets there, he only meets Morpheus (Giles Matthey).

“I’m Morpheus. Would you like to wake her up?” You betcha.

He takes him to her dream, where she is his servant, and he is the Beast. He has one hour to wake her, or she is lost forever. Rumple is convinced he can make her fall in love with him again. All he needs is the theme song to “Beauty and the Beast” and a yellow ball gown. It seems to be working. Until it stops. She remembers the heartache, and there’s a twist! I’ll save something for the recap next week.

Regina (Lana Parilla) goes to Zelena, who is scattered and unpacking. She lost a feather that Roland said to give her from Robin. Regina is really annoyed with her, but about more than that. Despite Snow’s urging them to talk, Regina brushes it off to go get Hyde. When they finally talk, Regina rages at Zelena. She blames her for Robin’s death. At least she has her new bestie, Snow White to turn to.

They end up capturing Hyde relatively quickly, but of course, he knows all about Emma’s tremors. Of course she goes to him. He knows about the battle in her head. He tells her to follow the red bird. What?

She sees it when she’s out with Hook. After making him go away, she follows it to a mysterious girl, an oracle.

“These visions…they tell a story. The story of your future.” She is shown the rest – her death. She won’t be able to avoid it. Running back to Hyde, he tells her of other saviors.

The Evil Queen brings appletinis to Zelena. Not good. Good Regina has not learned her lesson when dealing with her sister. Now she’s vulnerable to Evil Regina.

I’m kinda pissed at Emma from hiding what is really going on from Hook, yet again. This season will be the story of the saviors, including Aladdin and Jasmine, and probably 100 more stories. The season premiere was fun… it felt a little rushed but that is par for the Once course. I’m looking forward to the lengths Gold will go to win Belle back, and to seeing the Aladdin story unfold (love Oded Fehr).

Once Upon A Time airs Sunday nights at 8:00pm ET on ABC.

Synopsis:

As our heroes set out to stop Hyde, Emma develops a mysterious side effect, and Storybrooke becomes a haven for people from the Land of Untold Stories. Meanwhile, Regina and Zelena embrace their newfound sisterhood by becoming roommates, while Rumple tries to free Belle from the sleeping Curse with the help of a stranger. In flashback, Jafar confronts an afflicted Aladdin in Agrabah, and a secret about the Savior is revealed.
