Scream Queens concludes its second season tonight with an appropriately titled episode, considering it’s air date is the day after the Electoral College confirmed the Trump ascendancy. There are two Green Meanies left after Wes (Oliver Hudson) was killed off last week in a vat of boiling peanut oil. That leaves Chanel-hating hospital admin Ingrid Hoffel (Kirstie Alley), and vengeance seeking baby in the belly, Dr. Cassidy Cascade (Taylor Lautner) whose mom is even crazier than him, keeping Zayday (Keke Palmer) hostage while her son murders everyone he can in the hospital. The major bone of contention is his love of Chanel #3 (Billie Lourd) and whether or not he will follow through with killing her or run away with her. In other news, Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) finally admitted she’s dying of an incurable disease and Chanel (Emma Roberts) could be in line for a major gig, replacing a murdered Brooke Shields on “Loving the D”.

Spoilers for the second season finale of Scream Queens below:

Chanel #3 steals the show immediately after Cassidy fails to go through with killing her. “You not killing me and standing up to your mom is totally turning me on. How about I go home and take a quick whore’s bath, and you meet me in a half hour.”

Hester (Lea Michele) lays out a diabolical plan to Dr. Holt (John Stamos). Marry Munsch to inherit her trust, and then use it to buy Blood Island, and set up an extreme tourism venture where they can kill tourists. I don’t know what is it about acting like a raging psychopath, but it makes Lea Michele look good. Chanel checks Holt’s phone history and assume the engagement rings he’s looking up are for her but surprise!!! To Munsch, “Cathy, let’s enjoy the last few days of your life the way you should…” “Pounding?”

Cassidy tells his mom (Trilby Glover) that he’s done killing and she does NOT take it well. He then confesses to #3 about Hoffel, and Billie Lourd’s nervous reaction at her earmuffs actually made me jump. She is so subtle and deadpan and never touches the earmuffs, it was startling. Holt and Munsch are married in the hospital Of all people, #5 (Abigail Breslin), who it turns out is an actual medical genius, figures out Munsch may not be dying and recommends Holt perform complicated brain surgery. Meanwhile Hoffel is working on her new plan, using the toxic waste from the swamp to create a fertilizer bomb big enough to take the whole building down.

Hoffel’s plan comes to fruition as she traps everyone in a basement cage and shoots Cassidy’s mother. Zayday is back, and jokingly no one seems to give much a thought to where she’d been for the last two episodes. Suddenly Denise Hemphill (Niecy Nash) stumbles out, alive from the cryo-chamber. She defuses the bomb and they all give chase to Hoffel. She heads to the swamp and launches a machete at them, but Cassidy saves #3 and takes a fatal blow. In the swamp, Hoffel ends up in quicksand, and the group collectively agrees to let her sink and there you go, no more Green Meanies.
In the end, everyone got what they wanted… sort of. Hester stole Munsch’s money, and she and Holt actually go off to Blood Island to murder tourists. Zayday and #5 are running the hospital while Munsch took her money from the sale of said hospital to open a sex clinic in Aspen. Chanel became the famous TV doctor she always dreamed of with #3 as her EP. Everything was perfect. And then Chanel got in her car to find an old surprise waiting…

Season 2 of Scream Queens felt overall like most horror movie sequels. Good enough for what it was, but overall failing to live up the original. Emma Roberts can play Chanel in her sleep – she is always good, but the creators didn’t particularly come up with anything new for her. Not to beat the dead horse, but the highlights of this season were John Stamos who was fantastic, and Billie Lourd who is just my favorite on this show. Taylor Lautner was surprisingly hilarious throughout as well. Overall, Scream Queens is never going to be a show that wins awards, but it was consistently funny, and provided some good scares and gross out effects. It also has become popular enough where it draws in some great cameos and guest stars so that should be fun going forward.

To the Chanels, see ya in 2017.
