Tim Miller may not have come back to direct Deadpool 2, but he isn’t exactly done with the X-Men world.
That’s because the filmmaker is developing a Kitty Pryde film, following one of the youngest members of the X-Men, who has powers to phase through objects. But how will the film be affected by Disney’s acquisition of Fox? Find out more on the story below.
Collider exclusively broke the news earlier today. According to their reporting, the Kitty Pryde movie is currently under development, and there is a chance that Miller could direct. Again, this wouldn’t be the first time that Miller has stepped foot into the world of X-Men. He directed the first Deadpool, but creative differences led him to walk away from the sequel.
This also wouldn’t be the first time that Kitty Pryde has appeared in an X-Men film. Ellen Page played the character twice, first in X-Men: The Last Stand and then again in X-Men: Days of Future Past. While The Last Stand showed us Kitty using her phasing powers, the Kitty of Days of Future Past gave her the ability to send the consciousness of another person back into his or her body in the past. Yeah, it’s a bit confusing. The film deviated from the source material, where Kitty Pryde was the one who was sent back in time, however, in the film, she served as the conduit that helped send Wolverine back instead.
However, now comes the question of will this film get made. Collider says Fox isn’t exactly waiting around to see when the merger with Disney will happen. And it appears that Miller isn’t waiting around either. They add that while there is a chance that the Kitty Pryde film may never hit theaters, the fact that they are developing one in the first place shows that they want to build the X-Men universe with new characters. Films like Multiple Man starring James Franco are more examples of spinoffs currently in the works.
Kitty is also a fan-favorite among the X-Men roster. While her powers may not be in line with Storm or Jean Grey, her youth and charms did allow a younger audience to relate to the character. And maybe that’s what we will see in the film. A young Kitty Pryde being accepted into the Xavier Academy where she receives an education by day and goes on missions during off hours. But that is just speculation. But that story did play out during the X-Men: Evolution animated series. So it should be interesting to see what approach Miller will take and if Fox/Disney will follow through and make the film happen.
Of course, we will keep you up to date on the progress of the film should any new developments come up.
