Disney”¢Pixar has released details and images for an upcoming short called “Riley’s First Date?” which continues the story of director Pete Docter‘s hit animated movie Inside Out.
The short will come with the home video release of the movie, set to arrive in a couple of months in November. You can read more about the short and see a trio of images from it below.
“Riley’s First Date?” is directed by Josh Cooley, who was a screenwriter and story supervisor on the movie, and is co-directing Toy Story 4 along with the great John Lasseter.
Of the short, Cooley said:
“We were working on Inside Out, we had this connection because we all have daughters. We would talk about our kids and it eventually became fathers-of-daughters support group. One of them said, “˜Just wait until she’s old enough to bring home her first boy.’ That became the premise of the short film.”
The short follows a boy (seen toward the end of Inside Out) coming over to go ice skating with the young girl from the movie, Riley, and the emotions of her mother (Diane Lane), who tries to be hip and cool about it, and her father (Kyle MacLachlan), who tries to take the expected more serious approach.
The idea is said to have been pitched for the movie and didn’t make it, but Lasseter encouraged Cooley to spin it off into the short.
Inside Out can be pre-ordered for Blu-ray and DVD now.
