With Mad Men, AMC has built a reputation for producing quality television that’s accurate to the subject matter. Everything from the dialog to the set design is well researched to fit the time period the story is set in. One can only hope the network will follow suit with its latest series The Walking Dead, based on the popular comic book series by Robert Kirkman.
The Walking Dead comic, for those unfamiliar with the series, is set in a post-zombie outbreak America and follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes. The artwork is done in black and white (except for the cover art), which seems to add a level of grittiness to the overall tone of the story. The upcoming TV show is set in color, but otherwise it’s basically the same story converted into a new medium, as you can see in the official trailer embedded below.
Unlike Mad Men, it isn’t nearly as crucial to nail the set backgrounds or make scientifically realistic-looking flesh coming off the bones of humans both dead and alive. No, all you really need to do is appease the preexisting Walking Dead fan base, which may prove difficult if the show’s opening sequence fails to deliver a more positive reaction than the fan-made version currently being viewed across the internet.
